Background: Jack was born in the 51st century in a place called the Boeshane Penisula. His real name has never been revealed, Jack Harkness was a name he assumed, taking it from a dead American volunteer soldier from World War II. He's a former Time Agent, then turned con man. While on a con during the London Blitz he met the Doctor and Rose. Thinking they were Time Agents, he attempted to con them, only to have it backfire.

He traveled with the Doctor and Rose for some time. However during a Dalek attack, in the year 200100, he was killed during the ensuing battle. He didn't stay that way though, as Rose had taken in the powers of the Heart of the TARDIS giving her essentially the powers of a god, and with those powers she brought him back from the dead. But because she didn't have control over those powers, she brought Jack back from the dead forever and he can never die.

The Doctor left him aboard the gamestation where he was resurrected, leaving Jack with no idea how or why he was alive. He attempted to use his vortex manipulator, a Time Agency device, to time jump to the 21st century in the hope that he could find the Doctor. The manipulator was faulty and sent him to 1869 instead and burnt out leaving him stranded. Soon after that he came to the realization that he wasn't aging and that he couldn't die.

He was eventually recruited by Torchwood, an organization dedicated to studying and preparing for alien threats. Primary among them the Doctor. He hoped to help change Torchwood from within by working with them as a part of Torchwood Three in Cardiff and also using their considerable resources to find the Doctor. Eventually he did find him again, however in the end he decided not to stay with him opting instead to stay in Cardiff for the sake of his Torchwood team whom he'd grown to care for.


Personality: Jack is pansexual as well as an incorrigible flirt, and as such he has been known to flirt with anyone and everyone. He likes to joke and make light of things, but it is a cover for a great deal of bottled up memories and feelings, that he does let out on occasion. Because he's immortal, he's done a lot to regret and lost maybe people in his life. He tries to be a moral person, but is willing to take extreme and by other's opinions harsh action for the total greater good of humanity and the galaxy. He carries himself well and very confident in himself to the point of cockiness. A lot about his personality can be displayed in the fact that he still wears his military trench coat from World War II and continues to go by Captain Jack Harkness despite the fact that isn't his name. He wants to be better than he is. He wants to be the hero, the just one, but sometimes he isn't as successful as he'd like to be.

Physical Description: He has tousled dark brown hair, blue eyes, and is tall, with broad shoulders, and a chiseled jaw. He can most always be found wearing his WWII coat.
